Antique 1893 Sterling James G. Blaine Brownsville PA Demitasse Spoon
A lovely sterling silver commemorative James G. Blaine demitasse spoon. Blaine was Secretary of State, a United States senator from Maine, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He served from 1863 until 1892. He was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, just south of Pittsburgh. He died in 1983.
The top of the spoon has Blaine's portrait in a keystone (Pennsylvania is the Keystone State). Below, in a scrolling design is "James G. Blaine." The bowl of the spoon has his boyhood home and "Birth Place Brownsville, PA." The back of his portrait is engraved "Erie" (north of Pittsburgh) and the bowl is engraved "Xmas 93."
Marked, "Sterling" with hallmarks. Measures 4 1/4 inches. Excellent condition.
