Antique 1893 Worlds Fair Sterling Demitasse Spoon Columbus and Ferris Wheel
A wonderful antique sterling silver demitasse spoon to commemorate the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. This world's fair was to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World. Columbus is at the top of the spoon with his name in a banner and the Santa Maria, the ship the Columbus captained. A banner "1492" is below. The handle appears to have a corn cob texture.
The bowl of the spoon has the famous ferris wheel, "Height 264 Feet." The back of the spoon is engraved "World's Fair 1893."
This vintage sterling silver commemorative spoon measures about 4 1/4 inches. Marked, "U.S. Sterling." Great condition. Please click the photos to enlarge to see the detail.
A wonderful Victorian collectible. Part of a Victorian spoon collection (available separately) as seen in the last photo.
